Etsy - How to Add a Shop Banner    Thursday, April 5, 2018

Revised 3/26/19

If you wish to display your Etsy shop's branding with an image at the top of your shop, you have the option of displaying two sizes:  Big Banner or a Mini Banner. **

  • A Big Banner (previously called "Cover Photo") is the large image that spreads across the page.
  • A Mini Banner is smaller and also spreads across the page but is only about 1/2 the height of the Big Banner.  One advantage of the Mini Banner is that your Shop Icon will not overlap it when viewed on smartphones.

** If you still have the older small banner that is 760 x 100 displayed on your shop front, you have been "grandfathered in" for displaying this size banner on your shop front.  It appears that as long as you don't ever upload one of the larger banners, you can maintain this smaller size and continue to switch it out seasonally if you wish.  It is uploaded at Shop Manager > Settings > Info & Appearance.

Note:  For branding on your Order Receipt or Packing Slip, see directions at the end of this article.

TO ADD, CHANGE OR DELETE A BIG OR MINI BANNER

1.  Go to your shop front page, and click the Edit Shop button

2.  Depending on what you currently have displayed:

  • If you have no banner, click the + symbol at the top of the page next to "Banner to showcase your brand and listings."
  • If you already have a banner, click the pencil icon in the lower right of the banner.  If nothing happens at this point, click anywhere on the banner to begin editing.  Click "Change Layout" in upper left.

3.  A pop-up window appears with these options if you are on the Standard Etsy Plan:  Big Banner, Mini Banner, or None.  Follow these directions to add, change or delete:

BIG BANNER DIRECTIONS (minimum 1200 x 300 . . . maximum 3360 x 840)

  • Tick the circle next to Big Banner
  • Click Done
  • Click "Add an image" in center of screen, then locate and upload image from your computer or device
  • Click Save
  • Click View Shop

MINI BANNER DIRECTIONS (minimum 1200 x 160 . . . maximum 3360 x 448)

  • Tick the circle next to Mini Banner
  • Click Done
  • Click "Add an image" in center of screen, then locate and upload image from your computer or device
  • Click Save
  • Click View Shop

TO DELETE:  Choose None, Done, Save, View Shop.

ADDING A BANNER TO ORDER RECEIPT AND/OR PACKING SLIP (minimum 760x100 or any larger dimension that maintains the same ratio.)

This banner is what was previously referred to as a Small Banner.  It can no longer be displayed on your shop front,** but you may customize your Order Receipt and/or Packing Slip to display this banner at the top of the page.

  • Go to Shop Manager - Settings - Info & Appearance
  • Click Browse next to Order Receipt Banner
  • Upload your image which must be 760 x 100 pixels (or any larger dimension that maintains the same ratio).  It won't be visible until you scroll down and . . .
  • Click Save Changes
  • Next time you print an Order Receipt or Packing Slip, click Customize options, and tick "Order receipt banner."

** Exception:  If you currently have a small banner on your shop front, you have been grandfathered in.  It appears that you may continue to use this size including changing it out seasonally at Shop Manager > Settings > Info & Appearance, but if you ever change to a Big or Mini banner, you most likely won't be able to return to the small banner.

Etsy - How to Mark as Shipped & Add Tracking Number    Friday, March 30, 2018

ETSY:  How to Mark as Shipped & Add Tracking Number?

With Etsy's latest changes to the Orders & Shipping page on March 12, 2018, it is difficult for shop owners to find where to mark an item as shipped and add a tracking number.  Of course, if you use Etsy's shipping labels, it is marked automatically, but if not . . .

Here's how to mark an item as shipped / dispatched and add a tracking number:

1.  Go to Shop Manager and click Orders & Shipping.

2.  From the New orders tab, locate the order to be marked as shipped / dispatched.

3.  Click the icon that looks like a circle with check mark inside as pointed out below.  Hovering over the icon with your mouse, it might say "Update progress" or it might say "Mark as Complete."

4.  If you have the "Mark as complete" icon, it will take you directly to the shipping page.  (Skip to Step 5.)  If it says "Update progress," click the Mark complete button as seen below:

5.  A window will open to give you the option to add a tracking number, shipping provider, ship date and a Note to Buyer.

6.  Click "Mark order(s) complete."   Your order will be moved from New to Completed, and an Etsy email will be sent to your customer notifying them of the tracking number and that the order has been shipped.

Note to Buyer:  If you need to change this default message for the future or want to leave it blank, see this blog post:  How to Delete or Change Note to Buyer.

Etsy - How to Delete, Edit, or Change Note to Buyer on Shipping Notification    Thursday, March 29, 2018

Updated 06/09/19

ETSY:  How to Delete, Edit, or Change Note to Buyer on Shipping Notification?

For some reason, editing the Etsy Note to Buyer on the shipping email is one of the most difficult, convoluted things to accomplish if you have an Etsy shop, and it is nearly impossible to find a Help article on Etsy to guide you.  There are quite a few steps to accomplish this task, but with the directions below, your life will be so much easier and there will be no more incorrect messages going out to your customers.

*UPDATE*  The UK and Australia now have Etsy shipping labels.  If you are in one of these countries, the directions for USA and Canada to edit your note BEFORE your next order may work, but I have not tested it.

*UPDATE #2*  If you have an old Default Note, the new Etsy system (released in spring 2019) will not allow you to delete it!  So, just add a new note with a new name, and it will be there the next time you need a label.

This article will be broken down into three main sections:

  • Edit Note BEFORE your next order (USA & Canada only)
  • Edit Note during CURRENT order using Etsy shipping labels
  • Edit Note during CURRENT order using Mark As Shipped / Dispatched

Edit Note BEFORE Your Next Order   (USA & Canada Only)

Accessing the Note to Buyer that is sent with Etsy's shipping notification email can be accessed BEFORE your next order.  However, since it is accessed via Etsy shipping labels, it is only available to those in the USA and Canada at this time.  Don't worry, you'll be able to exit out without purchasing a label.

If you are outside the USA and Canada, you can still edit the note, but you'll have to do it with a current order, so please scroll down to the section entitled, "Edit Note during CURRENT order using Mark As Shipped / Dispatched."

1.  Go to Shop Manager and click Orders & Shipping.

2.  Click the Completed tab.

3.  Locate a previously shipped order, and click the little mail truck icon pointed out below to open the shipping label window -- as if you are going to purchase a label, but don't worry, you can exit out before purchasing.

4.  On the right side of the screen next to "Note to buyer" click EditMake your changes*, then click the square message bubble in the bottom left below the message field. (See arrow pointing below)

The window drops down; scroll down and click "+ Save as a new snippet."  Give it a name, click Save. Click Save again.

* TO DELETE MESSAGE ENTIRELY:  Erase all text in your current message.  You actually must save something here and spaces do not work. Saving a period (.) is the least noticeable and looks blank.  Continue with the remainder of #4 above after "Make your changes*, . . . "

TO CHOOSE A DIFFERENT SNIPPET:  Click Edit and then the square message bubble, and in the drop-down menu click the desired snippet.  Click Save.

TO DELETE SNIPPETS:  Click Edit and then the square message bubble and then "Manage snippets."  Click the trash can icons of all messages to be deleted.  Then click Done and Save

5.  Exit out from the shipping label screen by clicking Cancel in the lower left of screen.  Your new note will be there next time you purchase a label or mark an order shipped / complete.

Edit Note During CURRENT Order Using Etsy Shipping Labels

1.  Locate your current order under the New tab on the Orders & Shipping page, and click the mail truck icon to "Get Shipping Labels."

2.  Complete Step 4 above, and complete the label purchase.

Edit Note During CURRENT Order Using Mark As Shipped / Dispatched

(Skip to Step 5.)  If it says "Update progress," click the Mark complete button as seen below.

5.  A window will open to give you the option to add a tracking number, shipping provider, ship date and a Note to buyer(s)To edit the Note to Buyer, on the far right next to the pencil icon click Edit.   Make your changes*, then click the square message icon on the left below the message field. In the drop down menu choose "+ Save as a new snippet."  Give it a name, click Save. (To make this your default note, click Set default note.)  Click Save Note.

* TO DELETE MESSAGE ENTIRELY:  Erase all text in your current message.  You actually must save something here and spaces do not work. Saving a period (.) is the least noticeable and looks blank.  Continue with the remainder of #5 above after "Make your changes*, . . . "

TO CHOOSE A DIFFERENT SNIPPET:  Click Edit and then the square message bubble, and in the drop-down menu click the desired snippet.  Click Save Note.

TO DELETE SNIPPETS:  Click Edit and then the square message bubble and then "Manage snippets."  Click the trash can icons of all messages to be deleted.  Then click Done and Save Note

6.  Click "Mark order(s) complete."  Your new note will be there next time you mark your order shipped / dispatched.

With all you have going on right now planning your wedding, you could probably use a little help with one important detail -- the perfect gift for your bridesmaids to show your appreciation for their support and involvement in your special day.

Handmade Items Are Special!

I personally think handmade gifts are extra special, and these women who will be standing with you on your wedding day are extra special, too.

Whether you are a DIYer and have the time to make something yourself or if you are rushed for time and would like to purchase a handmade item, I've got you covered.

Two Great Options:

My first idea is a pretty little pouch, and I've found two options from a couple of awesome Etsy shop owners.  As you can see one option is to order custom handmade gifts, and the other is to purchase a pattern and make them yourself.  I've checked out these sellers and am confident that you will have a good experience with either one of them.
